August M. Schultz is a Minneapolis-based artist
They work mainly in screenprinting and hand-cut text. They also photograph weddings, and love small, intimate gatherings.
Their print work ruminates on being trans, stubbornness, and sobriety through repetitive, layered processes. Printed phrases are pulled from conversation, literature found in the gender and sexuality section of used bookstores, and inside jokes with themself, often existing right on the verge of oversharing. Their printmaking techniques reference historically queer methods of cruising, coding oneself, and disseminating information, printing through accessible means on lightweight paper, clothing, and handkerchiefs.
As a queer and nonbinary person working in the wedding industry, they exist within a field that was not created for them or people like them. As a wedding professional, they strive towards crafting a queer-competent and affordable alternative to traditional wedding photography.
